Monument Sights in Bordeaux

This medieval city gate commemorates the French victory in the battle of Fornovo in Italy.

Situated a little inland on the peninsula to protect the building from erosion, it was placed there to monitor and protect the numerous vessels entering the basin from the strong ocean currents.

Crossing the Garonne river, the Pont de Pierre or "stone bridge" was the first to span this expanse of river in Bordeaux.

The great wall, or Grandes Murailles, is now all that remains of a once Dominican monastery that was built in the 12th-century.
