Grotte Celestine Cave, Rauzan

Take a tour along Rauzan's underground river

featured in Sights & sites

These limestone caves run under the town of Rauzan and feature an underground river which has had many uses over the last two centuries.

They were first discovered by accident in 1845 and then forgotten about for many years before being opened to the public.

You can now take an tour along the caves, kitted out with torches, waterproofs and a helmet, and learn about the impressive rock formations.

Watch out for

There is a minimum height restriction for children. They must be at least 1.20 metres tall. This site is not suitable for those with reduced mobility and does not have disabled access.

Visitor comments

  • "We had pre-booked the tour with a group of about 12 people. Boots, helmets and lights were provided. The walk through the underground river is not difficult, the views in several sections are quite spectacular with very intricate patterns of stalagmites and stalagtites. The guide was very knowledgeable and made sure everyone had a good time." - Trip Advisor
  • "We had a wonderful visit to the cave, it's great fun wading through the water in thigh length wellies, supplied when you arrive. Unfortunately you cannot take photos in the cave, which is a shame, and you also leave bags and shoes in reception, which is safe, but for your own piece of mind it's probably best to just take minimal stuff with you. We didn't feel that we needed a jacket/jumper in the cave, but it is quite cool - a lovely respite from the summer heat! Our guide was very knowledgeable and did translate parts of the tour into English. They also have copies of English translations of the tour if needed." - Trip Advisor
