Chateau Monlot, Saint Hippolyte

Grand Cru Saint-Emilion wine producer

featured in Vineyards & estates Updated

Located in the quaint village of Saint Hippolyte, at the foot of the southern hills of Saint Emilion, the château has a surface area of 8.5 hectares featuring a mix of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes

The château belonged to Louis XIII, king of France from 1610 to 1643. Thereafter, it was passed down to Countess de Guerchy and her brother, the Marquis de Beuvron.

During the 19th century, the estate became the property of the Ichon family, who divided it between three family members. One of his daughters, Jeanne Delphine Ichon, inherited the “Maison noble de Capet” whereupon she renamed the property “Monlot Capet”. In French, “mon lot” means “my share”, which is in reference to the property being her inheritance, and marks the birth of the château’s current name.

The historical 400-year-old estate was bought by Chinese film star Zhao Wei in December 2011. She works together with celebrated agricultural engineer, Claude Bourguignon, and the former technical director of one of the world’s most famous wineries, Jean-Claude Berrouet.
