Chateau Coutet, Saint Emilion
Historical estate producing Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wine
With a history that goes back to the 15th century, this estate produces a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wine with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pressac varieties.
The long history of the chateau begins in the 15th century, when Sieur François Coutet named it. In 1601 it became the property of the mayor of Libourne Thomas d'Augereau, married to Marie David. The chateau has been related to the David Beaulieu family for at least 400 years.
Three generations of the same family are currently living in the property. They have implemented chemical-free techniques in their vineyard and it has become a proper ecosystem, with the agronomy school of Bordeaux analysing the microbiological life within it with temperature sensors.
When to come
They offer tours and wine tastings from Monday to Saturday 09:00-17:30, by appointment. There are 2 types of visits: the 'Tradition' tour tells the history of the estate with visits to the winery and family cellar, as well as a wine tasting; the 'Prestige' tour includes also an exploration Coutet's treasures and a walk around the vineyard.
