As with most months in Bordeaux July hosts some of the best festivals, wonderful markets and a good smattering of classical music events.
The month of July is filled with music from various countries and in a variety of settings. Starting with Les Estivales de Musique en Medoc, Bordeaux combines tow of our favourite things - classical music and fine wine. This annual event is recognised as a springboard for talented young artists presenting a programme dedicated to young winners of international classical music competitions. Hosted in a variety of chateaux in the Medoc region these concerts take place in the evening, at 21:00.
Art takes centre stage as the Shake Well International Graffiti Festival comes to town. Bringing this raw form of urban art into the heart of this cultural city gives us access to an artform that we might otherwise not experience. Thirty events and a hundred artists from the city of Bordeaux, as well as the national and international scene, will compose this unique event.
Keeping things current the BMX European Championships come to town in the middle of July. Following a weekend of French National events, the European Champs will draw the best BMX riders and performers from across Europe. Hosted int he magnificent place des Quinconces, this is an event that you don't want to miss.
Going back in time now the amazing battle re-enactments of Castillon are one of the main cultural draws of the region. The Battle of Castillon sealed the end of the Hundred Years' War, and for two hours on Friday/Saturday evenings during July and August you can enjoy this dramatic re-enactment just a stone's throw from the original battlefield.
Bringing our thoughts back to classical music and fine wine Les Grands Crus Musicaux marries once more the best wines of Bordeaux and classical music. Hosted by some of the most prestigious chateaux in the region and including wine tastings, this event offers the perfect blend of local heritage and exceptional evening concerts.
If you fancy learning a new skill the the DansonssurlesQuais is just the event for you. Inviting you to discover a variety of genres of dance and music where you can join in and enjoy a night of dancing under the stars. A different theme every day, including country and western, ballroom, swing and salsa. Each evening the beginner's lessons will take place from 19:00 to 20:00 and then from 20:00 until midnight the dance will be hosted for you to join in and enjoy. at 22:00 each evening there will be a demonstration from professional dancers so that you can see what you should be looking like!
Although it may seem that July is the month of evening entertainment and music you shouldn't forget that there are also plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy during the day.
